In 2014 the number of refugees, asylum-seekers and displaced people has risen to over 50 million worldwide for the first time since The Global Wizarding War.
At first, the British Government resisted accepting many of these people, but eventually yielded to international pressure. Of course, this has also led to an influx of people from diverse backgrounds attending Hogwarts.
While some members of the Magical Community are welcoming, others are vocal about their opposition to the situation.
And as if that weren't enough, rumours have arisen of a Magical Faction taking advantage of the Muggle unrest to cover their crimes.
